Kings Place is opening its doors and inviting you to come in, join in and do something creative to start the summer holidays. The Kings Place Family Weekend is part of the London 2012 Open Weekend celebrations across the UK. It is a weekend of workshops across all the arts, free family arts activities and an unplugged stage offering something for everyone. Workshops range from site specific performance to African hand drumming. Families can do something creative together: sing a song and dance a rhythm from the Turkish folk repertoire with Cahit Baylav, make a comic strip and bring a cast of characters to life with Sally Kindberg or travel through time in a time capsule with Barefaced Productions. Some of the workshops will be happening in the shared spaces, so expect impromptu performances towards the end of the day and a lively and engaging atmosphere throughout the weekend. The Unplugged Stage features a celebration of all that‘s good in music from young people under 25 showcasing young musical talent from the local area and around London. Free activities will be taking place throughout the weekend. Join a treasure hunt, make a mask, create a magical hanging fish, have your face painted, make a flower parasol, discover ‘who am I‘? There are a host of free arts activities going on around the building. Information will be available in the Battlebridge room over the weekend. Historic narrow boat Tarporley, which is moored at Kings Place, offers potential skippers the chance to join in and have a go at exploring the boat and working the locks on a trip with a difference. For the less energetic, it‘s ok to sit and watch the scenery go by on route to City Road basin and back passing through Islington tunnel and City Road Lock.
