When?: 19th June to 9th July 2009 Where?: Individual events are held at various venues across the city of London; see the website for details of the dates and locations of individual events. The first City of London Festival was held in 1962 and it’s aims were to promote and improve the culture within the city. Since that first event the festival has grown to become one of the leading arts events in the whole of the United Kingdom. The main reason is perhaps the sheer size and scope of the events held within the three weeks. Every kind of artistic media from film, music, visual arts, walks and talks as well as 100 free to attend outdoor events, combined with 50 ticketed performances in such beautiful settings as St Paul’s Cathedral. There is such a wide range of performances and activities available, that any visitor to the city and the festival would have a wealth of options to choose from that are sure to appeal to their own taste in art, music or culture.
