When?: Notting Hill Carnival takes place on the last Bank Holiday weekend in August each year.
Where?: In and around Notting Hill, London
Possibly the most famous Carnival outside of Rio and New Orleans, Notting Hill Carnival has become world famous due to its celebration of ethnic diversity, the staggering beauty and opulence of the attendees and performers and the appreciation of the different types of food, music and dance. Notting Hill is Europe’s largest street festival drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. The events roots are in the Caribbean community who first held their own carnival celebrating their traditions, roots and customs 45 years ago. 500 people attended that first event, which shows how spectacularly the growth has been to turn a small celebration, into what is now a global event. Activities include a huge selection of musical events, the famous parade through the streets on a host of garishly coloured floats, dance events as well as exhibits, displays, street artists and a great deal more. There are many festivals and carnivals in London. Notting Hill however is THE carnival.
