When?: 23rd April Where?: Shakespeare’s Globe, Bankside, London. Shakespeare’s birthday on the 23rd April, signifies the start of the 2009 theatre season at the hugely impressive Globe theatre. 2009 sees probably the bards most famous play, Romeo and Juliet, begin what promises to be an interesting season of Shakespeare’s works. Later in the year Troilus and Cressisa, As You Like it, Love’s Labour’s Lost, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Comedy of Errors will all be showcased at this incredible venue which gives his fans a chance to see how his plays would have looked and been performed at the time he wrote them. In addition the Globe theatre also puts on productions of other contemporary plays, as well as the occasional comedy performance. Fans of this amazing building can also take a guided tour and be educated on its history and significance in British culture as well as take in the Shakespeare’s Globe Exhibition which showcases many treasures to do with this often elusive and mysterious genius.
