When?: The festival is held on the 15th day of the Eighth Moon of the Korean Calendar. In 2008, this fell on the weekend of 13th-14th September Where?: Various sites across London was part of the The Mayor’s Thames Festival in 2008 A fantastic festival which coincides with Harvest Moon (or Ch’usok) which is held tradition dictates on the 15th day of the eighth moon of the Korean calendar. During this time Koreans will celebrate by dressing up in traditional clothes and holding a variety of martial arts displays, music and dance shows as well as providing traditional food and games which are squarely aimed at children and families. This celebration of an important part of the Korean calendar and it’s culture often coincides with the Mayor’s Thames Festival and as such has been incorporated into it in the past. It is therefore an idea to check on the Thames Mayor’s Festival website for the latest news and information should you wish to attend any of the exciting, unusual and educational events and exhibits that are put on during this period, by members of the London Korean community.
