When?: This event is held annually in October. Dates for 2009 are as yet unavailable.
Where?: Trafalgar Square, London
Every October members of the Sea Cadet Corps parade through Trafalgar Square to commemorate one of the most significant naval victories in British History, when Lord Nelson defeated the combined fleets of the Spanish and French navies at Cape Trafalgar. Victory in this battle is seen as a turning point in the conflict with Napoleon which when combined with the land battle at Waterloo, led by the Duke of Wellington finally put paid to Napoleon’s quest to make Europe an empire under his sole rule. The parade itself consists of a parade of the troops and a service to commemorate the battle, with wreaths laid to commemorate those who gave their lives. Tradition states that during the evening a hugely enjoyable themed theatrical event (at the time of writing details for 2009 were unconfirmed) takes place which delights the crowd, which often numbers near 10,000, such is the popularity of this event.
