The Foundling Museum 
Early in the 20th century The Foundling Hospital was well known for a place of refuge for thousands of abandoned children--in fact it housed over 27,000 children before its closure.

In the time since it has transformed itself into a The Foundling Museum with a large collection of artwork and it tells the history of the children taken in. The artists of the hospital era donated their art pieces as a way to aid the hospital to generate revenues from fees paid by admittance. This in effect lead the creation of the first gallery in the city at The Foundling House.
